Round 3: Zhuhai defeat Fubon Braves- December 17, 2019
There were just three rounds played in Regular Season of ASEAN League and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Zhuhai - WM Dragons 83-90 No shocking result in a game when Malaysian WM Dragons (2-1) beat on the road Chinese Zhuhai (1-3) 90-83 on Thursday. WM Dragons made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Will Artino (211-92, college: Creighton) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Amir Bell (193-96, college: Princeton) accounted for 20 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Four WM Dragons players scored in double figures. Forward Julian Boyd (201-90, college: LIU Brooklyn) came up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and guard Douglas Herring-Jr (191-87, college: Utica) added 27 points and 7 assists respectively for Zhuhai in the defeat. WM Dragons will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Zhuhai will play against Singapore Slingers (#9) and hope to win that game. The game took place in Changhua City where Fubon Braves won against host Formosa D. (1-3) 90-81. Fubon Braves had a 32-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Fubon Braves brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a great evening for Indian-Canadian center Sim Bhullar (226-92, college: N.Mexico St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Costa Rican-Belizean forward Charles Garcia (208-88, college: Seattle) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Fubon Braves players scored in double figures. Fubon Braves' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Jerran Young (198-91, college: Wright St.) with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and the other American import point guard Marcus Keene (180-95, college: Cent Michigan) scored 22 points and 8 assists. Fubon Braves will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Formosa D. will play at home against Alab Pilipinas (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. (1-3) on Sunday night. Visiting Macau was defeated by Formosa D. in a tough game in Changhua City 94-100. Formosa D. looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Marcus Keene (180-95, college: Cent Michigan) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. His fellow American import guard Jerran Young (198-91, college: Wright St.) accounted for 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. American-Filipino guard Mikh McKinney (184-92, college: Sacramento St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 assists and American swingman Kenny Manigault (196-91, college: Pikeville) added 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Macau in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Formosa D. will meet at home Alab Pilipinas (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Macau will play against Zhuhai and hope to secure a win. Visitors were defeated by Zhuhai 88-83. It was a good game for American guard Douglas Herring-Jr (191-87, college: Utica) who led his team to a victory with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. His fellow American import power forward Steven Thomas (204-81, college: MTSU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Zhuhai players scored in double figures. Costa Rican-Belizean forward Charles Garcia (208-88, college: Seattle) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard OJ Mayo (193-87, college: USC) added 25 points and 4 assists in the effort for Fubon Braves. Fubon Braves' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Zhuhai is looking forward to face Singapore Slingers (#9) on the road in the next round. Fubon Braves will play against Formosa D. (#6) in Changhua City and are hoping to win this game. Alab Pilipinas shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American players dominated the game. It was an exceptional evening for guard Khalif Wyatt (193-91, college: Temple, agency: Alti Sport) who led the winners and scored 28 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Nick King (201-95, college: MTSU) accounted for 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Alab Pilipinas' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and center Anthony McClain (211-88, college: Cincinnati) added 25 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks respectively for Singapore Slingers in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Alab Pilipinas will meet Formosa D. (#6) in the next round. Singapore Slingers will play against Zhuhai and hope to get finally their first victory.
